The origin of the name Kilimanjaro is unknown, but it’s believed to have originated from two different languages: Kilima- swalhili word meaning Mountain, and Njaro-changa word meaning whiteness, hence the Name Kilimanjaro.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest Mountain in Africa, Volcanic by formation with its three Cones; Kibo, Mawezi and Shira. Its 16,100 meters from its base and 19,341 feet above sea level.
One of the three cones of Mount Kilimanjaro; Shira, has collapsed, creating the SHIRA PLATEAU on the western side of the Mountain. Mawezi is a craggy peak standing at 16,896 ft. tall and is third highest peak after in Africa after Kibo and Mount Kenya.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the world’s highest free standing montain at a height if 19,341 feet above sea level. Free standing mountain means a mountain formed as result of Volcanic eruption and has no ranges. It lies 205 miles from the equator line. The equator is an imaginary line that divides the northern and southern. This is why it’s so interesting for it having glaziers as it is so close to the hot equatorial sun.
Aerocruise prides in itself for providing scenic flights to this spectacular art of God. Both from Kenyan side around Amboseli National park from Nairobi Wilson and more interesting is that we can take you to the highest peak in a pressurized PC12 plane for the breath taking photos of the crater on Kibo/Uhuru peak through Kilimanjaro international Airport.
