An urban agglomeration bustling with a diverse cultural blend from all over the world, Nairobi, popularly referred to as the Green City in the Sun, was founded in 1899 by the colonial authorities and quickly grew to replace Machakos as the capital of Kenya in 1907.
Nairobi is found within the Greater Nairobi metropolitan region which consists of 5 out of 47 counties in Kenya; Nairobi County – Core, Kiambu County – Northern metro, Murang’a County – North Eastern metro, Kajiado County – Southern metro, and Machakos County – Eastern metro.
Nairobi national park is arguably the most famous game reserve and the only one of its kind to border a capital city or any major city in the world. Interestingly, within the city is Africa’s largest urban slum, Kibera, found some 6.6 km from the city center.
Nairobi is dotted by some captivating sceneries that would make for an astounding scenic flight notably; the Limuru tea plantation, Great Rift Valley escarpment bordering the small town of Mai Mahiu, and last but not least, the SGR tunnel, which is impressively Africa’s second longest tunnel at 7.14 km long, tunneling through the Ngong hills.
The flight will take you from Wilson airport and overfly the Nairobi national park through Karen estate as you head to Ngong hills and trail the SGR tunnel onwards to the Great Rift Valley escarpment, circle and then head to Limuru to catch a glimpse of the vast green tea plantation which some have described as a ‘sight for sore eyes’ then back to Wilson airport overhead Uthiru and Kangemi to catch an aerial view of Nairobi city and the settlements.
